Town Mayor and Chairman of the Council

Cllr Jeff Hart

As Mayor of Wimborne Minster, I am keen to work collaboratively with all our external partners, councillors and council staff to help deliver the new 5-year Strategic Plan. Councils can be either ‘meetings-driven’ or ‘impact-driven and I am sure that we will be focusing on making the difference to residents, visitors and those who work in Wimborne Minster. The Council has been transformed over recent times and now has the capacity to influence and affect local issues. We have an excellent Town Clerk, motivated Council staff and committed councillors who in unison can make life and work better for all.

We moved to Wimborne in 1987 from London – to benefit from the good schools here and I was appointed as a school inspector to Dorset County Council. I am married with three children and live on New Borough Road, near the market. I love living in Wimborne and am very active in the town. I am Chair of Wimborne Community Theatre and have appeared in their productions for over twenty years here. I am also Chair of Governors of a local secondary school and have a strong interest in the local schools in Wimborne.
I was for many years a teacher and then became a school inspector with Dorset County Council and later Chief Inspector in Poole. I now work for HM Department for Education as a senior adviser but do this part-time and often work from home. I keep myself well informed on Wimborne’s developments and am latterly interested in the new housing developments.
What I like about Wimborne is the buzz about the town, the never-ending new developments and the history of an ancient and important landmark. Having researched and performed in over twenty plays about Wimborne with Wimborne Community Theatre, I feel I know a lot about our history, development and current issues. For example, to enliven local debate, I organised a Question Time event at the Allendale Centre. The Tivoli is one of our favourite venues as are many of the restaurants and hostelries!
I am dedicated to what I do and would do my upmost to deal with residents’ concerns and see through appropriate action. Do contact me if you have any issues or concerns.
