The next elections for the whole of Wimborne Minster Town Council (the Town Council) will take place on Thursday 2nd May 2024 when, if elected, 16 councillors will serve a five year term.

Are you passionate about your community? Do you have innovative ideas for the council? If so, then we need you. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect their community to put themselves forward for election as a Town Councillor for Wimborne Minster Town Council in May 2024.  Please come and talk to us, find out what the role of a Councillor is, how rewarding it can be and how to stand for election.

Councillors are elected to represent the local community, so to stand for election:

  • You are and will continue to be on the electoral register for Wimborne Minster; or
  • have resided in the parish of Wimborne Minster for the past twelve months or rented/tenanted land in the parish; or
  • During the last 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election your principal place of work is in the parish; or
  • you live within three miles (direct) of the Town Council boundary during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and day of election.

Becoming a councillor is a rewarding experience as you will be able to make a change in your community to help improve residents’ lives. A councillor’s role can include developing strategies and plans for the area, helping with problems and ideas, representing the community, working with other local community groups, decision making and reviewing decisions and talking to the community about their needs and what the council is doing.

In May 2024 we will need 16 Councillors to represent the people of Wimborne Minster.   Wimborne Minster is a politically independent council with an annual budget for 2023/24 of £630,085.
