HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in Wimborne Minster
The Town Council is delighted to be facilitating a variety of events over the Bank Holiday weekend in June to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Thanks to our hard working volunteers, the Town will be decorated in patriotic bunting and flags and a brief outline of events is given below.

Town Crier to read Proclamation from The Minster Green at 2 pm.
As a tribute to Her Majesty’s reaching the unique milestone of 70 years on the throne, on the evening of 2 June more than 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories as well as the capital cities of the Commonwealth countries.
Residents of Wimborne Minster, Colehill and Pamphill & Shapwick are invited to join in by attending the lighting of the Beacon at Wimborne Cemetery.
The parade will leave The Square at 8.45 pm lead by the Dorset Youth Marching Band and the Town Mayor and will arrive at The Cemetery just after 9 pm.
The Wimborne Militia will fire a 21-gun salute at 9.15 pm.
The Beacon will be lit at 9.45 pm.

The Big Jubilee Lunch (12 noon – 6 pm) organised by Wimborne Minster Town Council – there will be picnic benches in the High Street to seat 400 people and residents are encouraged to join in by bringing along their picnic lunch. A stage will be on The Square and the entertainment will include:
12 noon ‘Earth & Sea Acoustics’, 1.30 pm ‘Raygo Bloom‘, 3 pm ‘Soul Party’ and 5 pm ‘Matt Griffiths & Amie Knight’.
The event is free to attend and no pre-booking is required.
A collection for the Mayor’s Charities will take place during the afternoon.
We are also encouraging people to organise their own street party with neighbours. If you would like to do this you can get all the information you need from the Government’s guide to organising street parties. Other useful sites are the street party site and the big lunch site.
Road Closures
You won’t need to apply for a road closure if the party is on private land, such as a drive way or front garden
You shouldn’t need to produce a formal risk assessment.
You will only need an events licence if you are selling alcohol
If it is a one-off event you won’t need a food licence to serve food, but tips on food safety can be found from the Food Standards Agency.
There is no requirement to have public liability insurance, although you may choose to do so.
If you would like to request a road closure, then provided the event will involve fewer than 150 people and won’t be publicised to the general public, you can apply to Dorset Council for a temporary traffic restriction. You will need to apply at least six weeks in advance and follow on the guidance on the Dorset Council page.
Please note that the link for applying for a road closure for a Platinum Jubilee Street Party is the same as for very large public events on the highway, but Dorset Council has said that they will take a ‘light touch’ approach for the Jubilee provided the road to be closed is not a large through road. The standard consultation document will still need to be completed and uploaded. However, it is recognised that some sections will not be applicable, and you can write N/A against stakeholders which you do not think need to be consulted depending on your proposed street closure, e.g., emergency services, taxi companies, schools and refuse collections if your party is being held on Sunday 5thJune.
There is no fee for the application or for the notice to be issued but there may be a cost involved in signage at the end of your road, depending on which road it is. There is no mandatory public liability insurance needed although some people may wish to take some out.
