Fairly quiet week for the Mayor. Yesterday, I opened the Wimborne Food Bank Family Fun Day which was great fun. Won a box of Legends in the raffle and there was lots to do: face painting; competitions; magician; tombola; hang from a bar for the maximum time; etc. Had a planning meeting with the Town Clerk to prepare for next Tuesday’s Full Council meeting. Four groups have applied for grants; a QE Leisure Centre group will speak; a new councillor (John Billington) will attend. Meanwhile, had the first leaflet through the door from one of the seven candidates for the six seats in Wimborne Town ward – election on 8 August

It was a busy week. On Tuesday evening, the Planning and Environment Committee met, where community members voiced their concerns about the Birchdale Road developments. On Wednesday, I was interviewed by Radio Wimborne to discuss the Mayor’s role and plans. Friday featured a meeting at Corfe Mullen Parish Hall regarding Julian’s Bridge and related issues. Sunday marked my first Mayoral walk around the town, with 65 attendees. Malcolm Angel excelled as the guide, captivating the group with stories of Wimborne’s past and present. One family remarked that it was the best tour they had ever experienced, despite having been on many. The event also raised funds for the Mayor’s charities.

Images below are of Malcolm Angel sharing stories of Wimborne at the Minster and the Jubilee Garden.

General election week! I managed to attend the hustings at QE school on Monday which was really interesting. Voted at Leigh Park Community Centre and stayed  up late to watch the results.

Had a meeting with Wimborne Town Football Club who are very keen to work positively with the Town Council to become a big player in the town’s community.

On Thursday, myself and Gary Mason (who works with me at The Town Council) went into many Wimborne businesses to promote our charities and fund-raising events. Good response everywhere and strong interest in several events: the Big Mayor’s Quiz; the Mayoral Sunday morning walks; the Treasure Trail round the town; the Auction of Promises. The full ist of event is available through Gary at the Town Hall.

On Saturday, we opened  the fete at the Museum of East Dorset –  I described the Museum as ‘the jewel in Wimborne’s crown’ and I meant it. Lots and lots of volunteers hosting a wide variety of activities to raise much-needed funds for the Museum.
